Boston Shamrocks senior forward Madison Nichols (New Port Richey, FL) has committed to Nazareth College. The Golden Flyers will begin their first season of intercollegiate play with the 2018-19 season at the NCAA Division III level. The Golden Flyers will compete in the newly formed United Collegiate Hockey Conference with nine other schools: Chatham University Cougars, Elmira College Soaring Eagles, King’s College Monarchs, Lebanon Valley College Dutchmen, Manhattanville College Valiants, Neumann University Knights, Stevenson University Mustangs, Utica College Pioneers, and William Smith College Herons.
Chris Baudo, of Buffalo, New York, has been named the inaugural head women’s hockey coach at Nazareth College. “We are pleased to have attracted a coach with Chris’ credentials for our first-year women’s hockey program,” said Nazareth Athletic Director Pete Bothner. “He comes equipped with strong organizational skills and a proven record of program building.”
Nazareth’s newest team will play its home games at the Bill Gray’s Regional Iceplex on the Monroe Community College Campus, about a six-mile drive from the school’s Rochester, New York campus. Nazareth’s men’s ice hockey team, which recently completed its fifth season of intercollegiate play, also practices and plays its home games there.
Women’s ice hockey will be Nazareth’s 25th intercollegiate team. “The addition of men’s hockey five years ago really enhanced the variety of our athletic offerings,” Bothner said. “Now we’re equally pleased to be able to offer women’s hockey. Our hope is that women’s hockey will draw interest from a diverse group of student-athletes from various areas of the country.”
